Jeep Wrangler trim levels, performance and our Surrey dealership review

The Jeep Wrangler is the quintessential Jeep. A tough vehicle with roots dating back to World War II - it virtually started the SUV craze. Like the wartime Jeep it's descended from, today's all-new Wrangler JL will go just about anywhere. 2018 Jeep Wranglers come in two and four-door body styles and are equipped with a 3.6-litre V-6--a turbocharged four-cylinder and a diesel V-6 are joining the lineup soon--that powers all four wheels through a variety of available all- and four-wheel-drive systems. There are comfier, roomier, and more fuel-efficient SUVs, but no others that offer the freeing feeling of popping the entire top on a sunny day driving around in greater Vancouver.

What's n?w for Jeep Wrangler in 2018?

Although it may not look like it, everything about the Wrangler is all new for 2018, and it wears a new model designation--JL--to differentiate it from the outgoing Wrangler JK that will be sold alongside the new Jeep Wrangler for 2018. Designed to honour the Wrangler's ancestry and off-road capability while also improving passenger space, comfort, and on-road performance, the JL is much improved over the last generation.

Jeep Wrangler Trim levels (interior and exterior options)

We'd start with the two-door model and then step up to the mid-level Sport S trim, which increases the price by $3200. It includes a lot of equipment that most people will find essential, such as air conditioning, power windows and locks, heated power side-view mirrors, remote keyless entry, automatic headlamps, a security alarm, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. To that we'd, shell out $595 for the Premium Sunrider soft top, which sports extra sound-deadening material, and we'd also add the $995 Technology Group package, which includes:

o 7.0-?n?h U??nn??t touchscreen infotainment

o Apple C?rPl?? and Android Auto

o Aut?m?t?? climate control

Most people at our Surrey dealership are fans of the two-door Wrangler's classic shape, but those who need four doors can upgrade to the Unlimited model for $3500 on Sport, Sport S, and Rubicon trims; Sahara models are only offered with four doors. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, but an eight-speed automatic is available for $2000, and that's the one we'd choose. Our two-door Wrangler JL Sport S carries a sticker price of $34,980. Jeep Performance and fuel economy

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler is powered by a 3.6-litre V-6 with 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque; a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission are available. A 2.0-litre turbo-four with 270 hp and 295 lb-ft is optional and paired exclusively with the eight-speed automatic. A 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V-6 with 260 hp and 442 lb-ft will follow in the near future and come paired exclusively with the eight-speed automatic.

EPA fuel economy ratings for the 3.6-litre V-6-equipped four-door Unlimited models are 17/23 mpg city/highway with the manual and 18/23 mpg with the automatic. If you're looking for the ratings on the EPA's site, search for what's currently called "New Wrangler Unlimited." Ratings for the 2.0-litre turbo-four-powered models and the new two-door Wrangler haven't been released yet.

What we think of Jeep Wrangler at Go Dodge

In a 2018 First Drive review at Go Dodge in Surrey BC, we were impressed that the new Wrangler featured more on-road ride comfort without sacrificing its vaunted off-road capability. The 3.6-liter V-6, however, feels lacking on the larger four-door Wrangler Unlimited. When equipped with the optional turbo-four, the Wrangler remains plenty capable off-road. The eight-speed automatic transmission continues to be a gem with its quick and smooth shifts, and well-calibrated computer that knows what gear to be in at all times. Our customers in greater Vancouver have really enjoyed it. Find out more about the 2018 Jeep Wrangler.
