2018 Dodge Challenger vs Dodge Charger

Facing tough decisions are a normal part of life. If you are looking for a new car and you're trying to choose between the 2018 Dodge Challenger and the 2018 Dodge Charger, you are facing a very difficult (but fun) decision. There's a lot to love in both of these cars, so your choice will ultimately come down to what is most important to you in a new car.

The 2018 Dodge Challenger and 2018 Dodge Charger are both pinnacles of the Dodge brand and classic North American muscle cars. Both models sold at Go Dodge Surrey have been in production for over three decades and are competitors with models such as the Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro.

The Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger both have their own unique qualities, but they also have a lot in common, too. If you are one of the people that just can't seem to remember which Dodge muscle car you saw whizzing past you, here are some similarities and differences between the two.

muscle car performance

The Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger do not differ very much in performance. Each model offers a 3.6-liter V6 engine base model with other trims upgrading to V8 engines. Each model also comes with the long-awaited Hellcat trim, which packs a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque.

A key difference between the Challenger and the Charger is the Challenger's manual transmission option. For 2018 models, there is not a manual transmission available for the Dodge Charger. Additionally, there is a Challenger Demon trim that is not available for the Charger. This Challenger trim comes in a vibrant red colour and produces an earth-shattering 808 horsepower, which can then be upgraded to 840 horsepower using the optional Demon Crate Package.

Starting in 2017, the Challenger and Charger were both offered with rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. Previous to 2017, AWD was only an available option on the Charger, so that gave the Charger a bit of an edge over the Challenger for consumers living in places that experience ice and snow, but now customers can get the same handling with either model.

The Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger both have an aggressive an intimidating look. Both models offer modern technology in lighting and styling.

The main difference, that will be immediately apparent amongst the Challenger and Charger, is that the Challenger has two doors while the Charger has four doors. The four-door configuration of the Charger gives it more room to carry both cargo and people. However, the Challenger also has back seats and offers ample room for five people to sit comfortably.

Dodge Technology

The UConnect system, available in both cars, is considered one of the most advanced. Chargers have a standard seven-inch touchscreen, and Challengers got one as standard this year. New for 2018, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay expand the system's smartphone integration capability. Claiming five stars from the NHTSA crash testers, safety scores are good for both vehicles. A lane watch, blind zone assistance and a rear cross traffic alert are all on the menu.

Ultimately, when you're trying to decide between two amazing cars, the choice is going to come down to a matter of personal preference. If you're looking for an entry-level sports car without breaking the bank, the 2018 Dodge Charger is an obvious choice. However, if you're more interested in some of the higher-end trim levels, you'll end up getting more out of your money if you go with the 2018 Dodge Challenger.
